JOWAI, Feb 28: An RTI filed by residents of Mukroh village under Laskein C&RD Block in West has revealed anomaly in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
According to the residents, the RTI has revealed that as many as 36 deceased people, besides 17 differently-abled were included in the muster roll list of workers. “We have also detected that several people who are no longer residents of the village are also included in the workers list”, the village elders informed.
“We strongly suspected that the VEC Secretary, Hamboi-de Sumer, who has been the Headman of the village for the last five years, has misappropriate the money sanctioned for the village under the scheme”, one of the applicants said.
Five elders of the village jointly filed an RTI application with the office of the Block Development Officer, Laskein C&RD Block.
After receiving the reports, the villagers held a general meeting on Saturday and resolved to lodge a complaint against the Headman-cum-VEC secertary with the district administration.
“We never allowed the headman to hold the post of VEC. However, in the case of Sumer, he became the VEC secretary before he was elected as the headman, and the Dorbar Shnong agreed to give him time on request made by him citing pedning project works”, the elders informed.
Sumer’s term as the headman is over, however, he never calls a meeting for election of the new headman or the VEC secretary, the villagers alleged.
