Duped Ri Bhoi locals demand justice

NONGPOH, March 1: Leaders of Raid Madan Kyrdem on Monday met the Branch Manager, Meghalaya Rural Bank (MRB) Bhoirymbong Branch, demanding of the bank to take full responsibility in retrieving the money of the customers who were allegedly duped by a business correspondent of the bank’s Customer Service Point (CSP) in Bhoirymbong, Ri Bhoi, recently.
An FIR was also registered against the business correspondent for allegedly duping customers of more than Rs 10 lakh.
The FIR was filed ensuing a plaint by the Meghalaya Rural Bank, Bhoirymbong Branch.
The business correspondent, identified as Kiewrity Kharmyndai, has been accused of siphoning off lakhs of rupees deposited by the customers at the CSP in Bhoirymbong.
Moreover, Executive Secretary of Raid Madan Kyrdem, Amberlight Masharing, informed that the as the accused was duly recognised by the bank, it should take responsibility in reimbursing the money deposited by the customers.
He added that the Dorbar Raid Madan Kyrdem will also file a complaint against the business correspondent as well as the CSP on charges of cheating.
When enquired, manager of Bhoirymbong Branch, Kumar Thapa, informed that it was an unprecedented incident.
Expressing concern, he said the incident has tarnished the image of the bank and that strict action will be taken against the accused.
