Cultural programmes enthral crowd

 SHILLONG:Gandhar (The Mother’s Creation), a city based cultural institute presented a colourful variety of cultural programmes including a play by William Shakespeare on Saturday.

Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream was presented by the students of Gandhar at the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture Auditorium, which left the audience spellbound.

The entire programme was performed by the student artists of Gandhar starting from the welcome speech to the final play. An opening prayer by the students was followed by a Kali (Goddess) dance. A group song, bihu dance, besides Aurobindo’s Who — a song, were also presented on the occasion by the students.

A Raasleela presented by the child artists of Gandhar set to the Bollywood tune Dhol Baje enthralled the spectators.

A Bengali contemporary dance on a modern Bengali theme was also presented by the youths of today. A duet song followed by a Bengali dance, showcasing the cultural heritage of Bengal was also presented.

Dr SK Chatterjee, former DPI and founder of Gandhar was also felicitated on the occasion by former principal of Umshyrpi College, Dr KK Bhattacharjee.
