Poor cellular service irks consumers

NONGSTOIN: The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Mawshynrut Circle have issued a 3-day deadline beginning Thursday to telecom operators of Reliance, Vodafone and Aircel for improving connectivity within the area.
Barely a month ago, a deadline of three days was given for improving the network which fell on deaf ears and no action was taken.
The Federation complained that the network in the Mawshynrut area was causing problems for the people there. They said that for the last three days there has been no cellular network in the area.
They also mentioned that mobile users in the area had to dial 20-30 times to get connected to a call, if at all there was network. They further said that it took an unacceptably long duration of 15-20 minutes to send an SMS successfully adding that the companies also charged the customers through chargeable SMS even when the customer had not requested for them.
While recharging, the network responds that the facility is not available and also that the request is not complete, the complaint letter further read.
Beyond midnight to 9 AM, the Union complained that there was no network on a regular basis.
The FKJGP (Mawshynrut Circle) frustratingly declared that if the Companies did not comply with the deadline provided by them, they would dismantle the towers of these Companies that existed in the area.
