SHILLONG, March 9: Congress MLA from Mawsynram, HM Shangpliang, has appreciated the efforts of state Health Minister AL Hek for trying to better the health sector in Meghalaya, while pointing out that the just-approved upgrade of Sawsymper Sub-Centre in Mawsynram to a public health centre (PHC) is much needed for the public.
It may be mentioned here that the proposal for upgrade of the sub-centre has been approved by the government.
“The proposal for upgrade of Sawsymper Sub-Centre to a PHC has been approved by the state government,” Health Minister AL Hek informed, while replying to the question raised by Mawsynram MLA during the question and answer round of the Assembly’s Budget session.
An elated Shangpliang, after hearing the minister’s reply, said, “I thank the health minister on behalf of the people for considering and approving the proposal”. To a query of the MLA as to when are the sanctions expected, Hek said that proposal was sent in the year 2018.
The upgrade was a long-felt need of the people including local representatives as well as pressure groups, which had earlier demanded the upscale of the facility for the locals to avail better medical facilities.
Last year, the state government had set a target of one year to improve the health infrastructure in Meghalaya. In line with its target, the government has also drawn up a blueprint to upgrade health sub-centres, PHCs and community health centres.
