SHILLONG, March 10: The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) Engineers’ Association will hold a peaceful agitation on Thursday in protest against the suspension of a superintending engineer of the MeECL.
Recalling that the MeECL management had appreciated the superintending engineer for his effort and ability to maintain uninterrupted power supply which resulted in zero load-shedding even during dry season, the Association lamented that the Corporation has neither responded to their request nor revoked the order of suspension.
Terming the MeECL’s decision as “uncalled-for, unjustified and arbitrary”, the Association said that the management never issued any standard operating procedure in respect of the office of the Superintending Engineer, Energy Management, which was set up only in recent years.
The executive committee of the Association also took exception to the special tariff permitted for Byrnihat Industries Association and the various Letter of Awards issued by the management at exorbitant rates for projects like smart meters, Saubhagya, ERP etc, which have caused substantial losses to the organisation
“Since the management has failed to take action on the reasonable request of the Association to reinstate the officer, the MeECL Engineers’ Association has resolved to wear black badges, carry placards and stick banners on March 11 at the office, power station and sub-station premises of MeECL across the state.
The Association members will carry out a peaceful protest with no disruption of works during the period of agitation.
Moreover, members of the Association posted in Shillong headquarter will resort to sloganeering at MeECL headquarter in Lumjinghai during lunch hour on Thursday.
