SHILLONG: Despite the ‘merger’ of majority of NCP legislators with the National People’s Party (NPP) almost two months back, the legislators are yet to submit the official merger papers to Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope.
It was on August 24 that the majority of NCP legislators, except Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Sanbor Shullai and legislator Adolf Hitler Marak, had merged with NPP at an official function held at its party headquarter here.
However, the NCP is yet to hand over the official papers to the Assembly Speaker to substantiate the claim of merger.
The Assembly Speaker said that those who had merged are yet to submit the papers to him.
The stand of the Opposition leader Conrad Sangma from the NPP is that the party is still preparing the documents related to the merger after consultation with the lawyers.
However, based on the media reports related to the merger, the NCP central leadership had lodged a complaint with the Speaker recently which, however, was rejected by Pyngrope on the grounds that the complaint should be lodged by a member of the House not a party leader.
Later, Deputy Speaker Sanbor Shullai filed an official complaint urging the Speaker to disqualify the legislators who had merged with the NPP.
The Speaker is examining the papers submitted by Shullai before issuing show cause notices to the defected legislators.
