SHILLONG: Despite the huge football potential of the youth in Meghalaya, there is little room for them to fit in big football clubs of the state where players from outside predominate, Mawlai MDC Embhah Syiemlieh alleged.

“In this regard, there is one question that pops up in our minds. Are the young local footballers not good enough that they have to be replaced by people from outside?” Syiemlieh asked.

Syiemlieh said this at a football tournament organised by the Seng Samla Mawlai Mawroh as part of the youth festival held at Mawroh football ground on Tuesday.

Young footballers from the state end up in local tournaments and they have very little scope of making their dreams big, he added.

“We see big clubs are filled with people from outside, discarding our young boys with immense talents,” he said, adding that they need a platform to showcase their talents.

“Hard work and dedication are the key to success,” Syiemlieh said, while urging the youth to strive further.

The team Lucky Seven won the tournament, while team Adidas were runners-up. There were 18 other teams in the tournament.

There was also a football match between two girls teams of the locality in a five-a-side contest.
