SHILLONG: The KSU and FKJGP have demanded the State Government to immediately revoke the Cabinet decision to extend the service of State Sports Council Chief Engineer R Kharmalki.

Expressing strong resentment and opposition over the Cabinet decision, KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa and FKJGP president Joe Marwein, in a joint statement on Thursday, said, “We were caught by surprise when we learnt that the Cabinet has endorsed the decision of the Sports and Youth Affairs department to extend the service of the former State Sports Council Chief Engineer.”

The two NGOs asked the State Government to refrain from taking such decisions that would work against the interest of the unemployed youth and are detrimental to the well being of the State.

“We reaffirm that the Government should not entertain such whimsical aspiration of any individual in any position of the State Government which would only serve to benefit the interest of a few, rather than the State,” they said, adding, “We expect positive response from the Government in this connection which would be in the best interest and welfare of the State.”
