TURA, March 25: Several organisations from North Garo Hills on Thursday extended their support to the contractual teachers, who are facing potential termination from services, and petitioned Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for reconsideration of the situation
In their appeal to the chief minister, organisations comprising the GSMC, GSU, AAYF, AYWO, AGPF, ADE, AHAM et al maintained that it was out of question for the teachers, who have devoted their life to their profession, to opt for an alternate livelihood option, especially taking into account the age limit.
They added that lest the teachers are terminated from their services, their families will have to bear the financial brunt.
The organisations also exhorted the chief minister to allow the contractual teachers, who were unable to clear the last MTET examinations, to appear for a special MTET course.
“Some of these teachers have been in service for one year while others have served in the profession for ten years or more. They have spent their lives imparting education to youngsters, some of whom are likely to have become imminent public leaders and social workers. We urge you to consider their years of service and make some arrangements for them,” the organisations said.
