SHILLONG, April 8: Congress legislator from Ampati constituency, Miani D Shira, on Thursday cast aspersions on Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s recent remarks about Congress not campaigning due to the NPP wave.
“Let the poll results come; the people will give a befitting reply. As far as campaigning is concerned, just because they (NPP) are holding huge campaigns and their MLAs are here does not mean they are the only ones campaigning,” said Shira.
She said that Congress is aggressively holding campaigns in most of the constituencies. “We are campaigning day and night and just because we are not doing huge programmes does not mean we are not campaigning,” Shira said.
Pointing out that COVID protocols are in place, the MLA said, “We are trying to reach out to people village-wise and avoid crowds as much as possible. Only our CLP leader is holding the big rallies”.
The chief minister had earlier, during an election rally in Garo Hills, claimed that many leaders from the Opposition Congress are pledging their support to the NPP. He had also said that Congress has put their hands down due to the NPP wave, which can be felt across the Garo Hills region.
