SHILLONG: Following the arrest of two of its cadres on Wednesday night, the ANVC (B) on Friday claimed that they were working on a special mission to trace out a big consignment of IEDs and detonators near Tura that was to be delivered to Assam-based militant groups on Wednesday night.

The action commander of ANVC (B), Delu R Marak, and another cadre Migam M Marak were arrested on Wednesday night.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the ANVC (B) said that the outfit suspected that certain individuals were helping Assam-based organizations as they had specific information of special consignment of IEDs and detonators being transported from across the borders. The consignments were meant to be delivered to Tura. “The ANVC (B) cadres were working late on this mission and were chasing a suspect when they came face to face with the police at Ringre at around 11 pm,” the ANVC (B) said.

“The ANVC (B) cadres are working hard to protect the area from criminal elements without affecting the normal life of the common people,” the militant outfit claimed.

“The people should understand that ANVC (B) is not a government agency and does not work with police. We work independently using our own network and intelligence. ANVC (B) does not involve itself in illegal activities, but there are people who are doing it openly in our name. We will make it public and take action when the time comes,” the statement added.
