SHILLONG, April 18: Lashing out at the governance, the United Hynniewtrep Movement (UHM), on Sunday, questioned the state government for ‘failing’ to initiate dialogue with its counterpart in Assam to deliberate on the long-pending interstate boundary dispute.
It also sought answers from the government over ‘failing’ to take care of the people residing along the interstate border as well as the Indo-Bangla boder.
In a statement, the UHM said it will press for the state government to introduce a policy of free land registration along the border areas in the interest of the residents.
The organsiation has asked the government to have a detailed discussion specific to the border issue on or before April 23 while threatening to resort to “other measures”.
“We will resort to other measures, if the government fails to comply with their suggestion in the interest of the people residing along the interstate border,” the UHM said.
Maintaining that they had held a discussion with Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh on the implementation of the free-land registration policy in the border villages of Meghalaya, the UHM claimed that the minister assured them to raise this issue with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
“We are still waiting for a response from the state government to have a detailed discussion on the issues afflicting the people residing in the villages along the border with Assam and Bangladesh,” the organisation said in the statement.
