Five in fray for MSCW chief post

SHILLONG, April 22: Five contestants are in the fray for the post of the chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) after their applications were received by the state government in a recent development.
Dysfunctional since October last year after the tenure of its previous chairperson, Theilin Phanbuh, had ended, the MSCW has remained without a chairperson till date even as the Meghalaya government had assured to appoint someone to the post at the earliest.
The applicants who have applied for the post are I Tariang, retired Deputy Director of Social Welfare department, OB Tariang, an entrepreneur, Bharati B Sangma, member of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (2018-2020), Pynhun Suchiang, retired Assistant Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and Meena Kharkongor, Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (2014-2020).
Recently, the Thma U Rangli-Juki had urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to prioritise the establishment of a search and selection committee to facilitate the formation of the new commission.
