SHILLONG: Toeing his fellow legislators’ line on the alleged irregularities in the appointment of the assistant teachers in the government run lower primary schools, UDP MLA from Dienglieng constituency Remington Pyngrope said he had recommended the names of only those candidates who had successfully cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET).
Pyngrope’s name figured in the CBI report for recommending 47 names to the then Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh. “As an MLA, It is my duty to recommend candidates who have cleared interviews,” Pyngrope said.
Earlier, Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope, Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong and Social Welfare Minister have also admitted that they had recommended names of some candidates even as insisted that they did not put any pressure to appoint the recommended candidates.
