‘Address problems faced by people in East Garo Hills’

 SHILLONG: The Garo Students’ Union – East Zone, Williamnagar has urged the State Government to immediately look into the various problems being confronted by the people of the district.

In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma here on Wednesday, the students’ body urged him to address the various problems pertaining to medical facilities, education and road infrastructures faced by the people in the district.

Stating that the Williamnagar Civil Hospital is plagued due to insufficient doctors and staff, the Union demanded that trained medical personnel including general surgeon, anesthetists, medicine specialists, ENT, orthopedic, dermatologist and physiotherapist should be immediately deputed at the hospital.

While highlighting the problems faced by the educational institutions in East Garo hills district, the GSU sought the immediate intervention of the government to speed up the appointment of a full-fledged principal in Williamnagar Government College which has become vacant after the transfer of the incumbent principal to Shillong.

The Union also asked the government to allow the polytechnic classes to be temporarily conducted in the ITI building till the infrastructure for the polytechnic institution is ready.

Furthermore, the GSU demanded the setting up of a telecommunication office in Mangsang which is a remote village in the district.
