SHILLONG: A once deserted plot of land, Malki has now witnessed many changes in various fields including education and in the last fifty 50 years much has been achieved the credit of which goes to Little Flower Secondary School, Deputy Chief Minister and local MLA BM Lanong said.
“This place was a deserted plot of land before Archbishop Stephen Ferrando and the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians set up an educational institution here,” Lanong said while addressing the golden jubilee celebration of Little Flower Secondary School in the school premises at Malki here on Wednesday.
Over the past 50 years, much has been achieved and contributed by Little Flower Secondary School to the people of Malki area and its adjoining areas in the field education and knowledge, the Malki MLA said.
Lanong also said that the students should be imparted and shaped with the right kind of knowledge right from a young age, while urging the managing body of the School to march forward in their journey to serve the people who are in need of education.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Governor RS Mooshahary stressed on the need to inculcate the ideal of peace among the youth of today which is one of the important aspect of nation building, adding “accepting peace will acquire not only literacy but character as well”. “The students should be imparted and shaped with the right kind of knowledge right from their very young age,” Mooshahary said urging the students to abstain from falsehood and stick with the truth in order to succeed in life. “Archbishop Stephen Ferrando has immense contributions in serving the deprived and poor people of the State which led him to establish the School in 1962 which today has completed its golden jubilee of service,” the Governor said, while adding that the school has been a blessing to the people of Malki.
Meanwhile, the Principal of Little Flower Secondary School, Sister Ancy Abraham said the past five decades have been an exciting journey for the school.
She also said that Archbishop Ferrando began his work in setting up the educational institute in Malki since this area had lot of children and poor people at that time.
The Principal further stated that the school was recognized by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) in February 1976 and by the State Government on October 1, 1981 adding that the first batch of students appeared for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) in 1969 securing 100 per cent pass percentage.
“Over 9000 students have passed out from this school in the past five decades. The school has also produced a number of personalities in various fields including engineers, doctors, professors etc.,” Sister Abraham asserted.
During the function the Governor also released a souvenir ‘Golden Aroma of Fragrance’ and mementoes were presented to all the dignitaries present and also for those who have supported and cooperated for the school. The golden jubilee celebration was attended by thousands of past and present students.
