Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Thursday issued a three-day ultimatum to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to withdraw his ‘disgraceful’ remark against Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at a party rally on November four here.
The TPCC threatened to go for legal action against Sarkar unless he withdrew his comment of describing Dr Singh as ‘lunatic’.
“There are many CMs and politicians in the country and none of them have so far passed such a comment because such a remark against any Prime Minister is a clear indication of disrespect to democracy and undermining the country to the neighbor,” TPCC president Sudip Roybarman said.
He made it clear that the party would wait for three days and it would announce future course of action if the Chief Minister does not apologize for his remarks and added if the situation demands, the party would sue the Chief Minister.
On the Chief Minister’s allegation of nexus between Congress-INPT, an insurgent group, Roybarman challenged Sarkar to reveal the names of those leaders who have relation with the outlawed group with evidence.
“If he is having the list of the political leaders maintaining rapport with militants, being a Chief Minister his duty is to take action otherwise, he will be accused of suppressing of fact for narrow political interest in the court of law,” Roybarman stated, adding he could be treated as guilty if he did not reveal the truth especially when it comes to internal security under section 202 IPC.
The party had held protest rallies across the state and demanded the Chief Minister to seek apology in public.
Allegedly, Sarkar had stated, “There are three types of ministers in Monmohan Singh government- some have already landed in jail, some are about to go to jail and the remaining, including Dr Singh, will soon land in jail for siphoning off the public money.”
He also accused Dr Singh of stating that ‘money was not fruit of a tree – anyone can pluck as their wish’ when Tripura government had asked for additional financial assistance after receiving grant from 13th Finance Commission. (UNI)
