SHILLONG, April 29: Following a tussle that reportedly broke out between personnel of Assam Rifles campus at Lad Nongkrem and residents of the area earlier this month, the MLA of Nongkrem, Lambor Malngiang, has threatened to close down the road connecting to the force’s campus if such untoward incidents are repeated again.
Lambor Malngiang, who is also the Chairman of the State Planning Board, said this after convening an emergent meeting here which was also attended by East Khasi Hills District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, officials of Assam Rifles and the PWD.
“If these incidents happen in future, we will have to close down the road which leads to the campus of Assam Rifles,” he added.
Malngiang, who made it clear that he bats for friendly and healthy relationship between armed forces and local populace, said that the Brigadier of Assam Rifles has informed him that those personnel involved in the incident will be arrested and action would be taken against them.
Moreover, the East Khasi Hills SP was also asked to direct the Officer in-Charge of Madanrting Police Station to conduct patrolling in surrounding areas of the campus.
The MLA also instructed the PWD to earmark certain amount of funds for construction and black-metalling of the internal roads on the Assam Rifles campus as proposals have been submitted for maintaining the road starting the main highway till the main campus of the force.
He also asked the Assam Rifles to reopen the gates which connects to two different localities of the area.
The MLA also assured that he would review the matter from time to time.
