Pre-monsoon spell over Meghalaya till May 5

SHILLONG, May 1: The Indian Meteorological Department, Shillong, has warned about an enhanced pre-monsoon spell of rainfall over Meghalaya for the coming four days.
“Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds is very likely over Meghalaya during May 1-5, 2021. Heavy rainfall at isolated places, many in Khasi-Jaintia hills, is expected during May 2-4 at isolated places over the state,” the IMD said in a statement on Saturday.
On Day 1 (Sunday), light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places while in isolated places of the state, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 40-50 kmph is likely, the statement said.
The IMD also informed that due to the inclement weather, there may be probable impact on the surroundings.
It warned about the possibilities of damage to vulnerable /loose/temporary structure/thatch houses, minor damage to kutcha roads, occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall, damage to standing crops due to strong wind/hail, injury to people and cattle at open places due to hailstones, partial damage to vulnerable structures due to strong winds, et al.
