11 cases in Phulbari market leads to closure

TURA, May 1: The rising number of COVID-19 infections is fast-spreading to several areas of Garo Hills with various areas in the region being declared as containment zones after detection of COVID cases.
The busy Phulbari market, located at a plain-belt region in West Garo Hills, was declared a containment zone after 11 COVID-19 cases were reported. According to Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, surveillance teams have, meanwhile, initiated contact tracing.
Fresh cases have also been detected in remote Salmanpara town located towards the international border with Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, authorities in South West Garo Hills have declared the residential compound of fathers of St Claret School, Ampati, as containment zone due to the detection of COVID cases under Betasing PHC.
According to a statement on Saturday, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of the inhabitants of the compound.
However, the board examinations in St Claret School will continue as per schedule with adherence to necessary COVID-19 protocols.
Meanwhile, the OPD service in Salmanpara PHC has been closed for April 1 and 2 after a COVID-19 case was detected in the PHC.
