SHILLONG: The UDP State Election Committee (SEC) on Friday named three more candidates who have been awarded party tickets for the upcoming 2013 Assembly election.

UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh informed that the three names which were approved are Brastone Kharphuli from Sohiong constituency, Predecessor Rumnong from Pynthorumkhrah constituency and Sontosh Marak from Williamnagar constituency.

In the last SEC meeting which was held in September 26, the party cleared five names for the party tickets including BG Momin from Mendipathar constituency, Dr Md Mizanur Rehman Kazi from Rajabala constituency, WN Sangma from Resubelpara constituency, Sing Mulieh from Jowai constituency and Mihsalan Suchiang from Mookaiaw constituency.

No pre-poll talks with NPP: Lanong

The UDP on Friday rejected the claims by the National People’s Party (NPP) that they are having a dialogue over the issue of a pre-poll alliance ahead of the 2013 Assembly polls.

“The party has rejected the idea of having a pre-poll alliance which was proposed by NPP chief Purno A Sangma. Majority of the party leaders in the last Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting have opposed the idea of pre-poll alliance with any party,” UDP working president Bindo Mathew Lanong told The Shillong Times on Friday.

The UDP working president also expressed surprise over the claims of the NPP chief that they recently had a discussion on the issue.

“As far my knowledge goes, there was no such meeting between the leaders of the two parties,” Lanong said.

He also informed that the party would be contesting the upcoming Assembly election on its own.

Earlier, the NPP chief had said that his party was in the midst of negotiations with other likeminded political parties.

Sangma had claimed that preliminary talks have been held between the NPP, UDP and HSPDP recently, adding that the next round of discussions would be held shortly.
