SHILLONG: After a city court rejected the bail petition of Rev SK Miller last month, Miller last week moved the High Court where he yet again faced the same fate when his bail application was rejected by the court.
Rev SK Miller who is in judicial custody in connection with cases related to exploitation and sexual abuse of minors staying at the New Life Home owned by him, is currently in Shillong Civil Hospital undergoing treatment for his ailment.
His stay in Civil Hospital has been questioned by many. “It is shocking to note that it takes so long for the doctors to cure Miller and why can’t they put him in the jail hospital instead of giving him special treatment”, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said here on Sunday.
It may be reminded that a day after his arrest, Miller was admitted to Civil Hospital and later shifted to NEIGRIHMS following complaints of cardiac problems of which medical reports have confirmed that he was not suffering at all.
“After intervention by the child welfare committee and Childline, we have decided to hand over the children to the parents and they are currently in the city to enable the children to continue with their studies”, programme coordinator of Childline, Iba Synrem told The Shillong Times here on Sunday.
Altogether, 10 children were rescued from the hostel, six (four girls and two boys) of which were rescued by Childline, two boys managed to escaped while the other two boys were rescued by their parents from Assam following the intervention of a Guwahati-based NGO, Universal Team for Social Action and Help (UTSAH) last month.
