SHILLONG, May 12: Joining the global community, the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya has conveyed its gratitude to and lauded the nurses in the state and across the world on International Nurses Day while also calling on the Meghalaya government to provide optional extension of the service tenure of the nurses and doctors.
“We salute the all the frontline workers including nurses and doctors, and all essential service providers for their dedication and sacrifice in the fight against COVID-19,” the organisation said in a statement issued here.
“We appeal to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Conrad K Sangma, Hon’ble Minister i/c Health department and MLAs of all political parties to consider providing an optional extension of service tenure of the nurses & doctors either by two or three years as a token of appreciation for their sacrifice in this war against COVID-19. It will be the least we can do,” John F Kharshiing, Chairman of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, said in the statement.
