Guwahati: The Assam government will take all steps to ensure that the militants involved in the killing of tea planter and businessman Adilur Rahman are brought to book, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said on Wednesday.
Gogoi spoke to Adilur’s mother Rumena Rahman on telephone and condoled her son’s death besides assuring her that all steps would be taken to bring the guilty to book. The government, he said, has already instituted a probe into Rahman’s killing. Rahman, owner of Mahalaxmi Tea Estate and director of Dynasty Hotels in Guwahati, was shot dead by ultras affiliated to National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).
His security guard was seriously injured in the attack at Nagda on Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
All business establishments and shops at Lakhtokia area of the city, where Dynasty Hotels are located, remained closed during the day in protest against the killing. In another incident, 4 km from Chandrasila around 9.30 PM on Tuesday, the extremists again fired randomly at Nalbari village injuring one person and his six-year-old daughter.
The Ranjan Daimary faction of NDFB has been unleashing violence since Monday when a farmer identified as Ali Hussain was shot dead in Gossaigaon area of the district where fresh ethnic violence broke out on Saturday night after a lull of nearly three months. (PTI)
