JOWAI: Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) Chairman, Obil Kyndait, who is determined to contest the forth-coming Assembly election in the State, tendered his resignation from the Congress party on Friday.

Kyndait who represents 4-Tuber District Council constituency submitted his resignation letter to the president of the Jaintia Hills District Congress Committee (JHDCC) immediately after the JHADC Winter Session held on Friday.

“I do hereby relinquish my post of Vice President, Khliehriat Block Congress Committee, as well as from primary membership of the Indian National Congress with immediate effect on my own personal ground,” Kyndait stated in the resignation letter.

Kyndait has decided to contest the State Assembly elections due in February-March from Khliehriat as announced at a public meeting held at Mukhaialong few months ago.

Kyndait was elected on a Congress ticket in the last District Council election and was appointed as the Chairman of the District Council Planning Board in the last Hambertus Nongtdu-led Executive Committee.

After the Nongtdu-led Executive Committee lost its majority and was replaced by Lamdibok Sumer as the CEM, Kyndait was elected as the JHADC Chairman.

Sources informed that Kyndait would continue to hold the post of JHADC Chairman despite having quit the Congress.

JHADC Winter Session prorogued

Meanwhile, the JHADC Chairman on Friday prorogued the one-day Winter Session only after obituary references, questions and replies.

The Winter Session lasted 45 minutes only.

“Since there is no business placed in the House, I declare the House prorogued,” Kyndait said, adding, “I don’t want to see the House go without any business in the next session.”
