SHILLONG: Despite drawing a bank in the last Assembly election in 2008, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has decided to field at least 20 candidates to contest the upcoming 2013 State polls.

The LJP has set up its state office at Kench’s Trace and appointed RG Pradhan as state general secretary.

LJP had fielded 18 candidates in the 2008 elections, but it could not win a single seat despite national party president Ram Vilas Paswan and other leaders campaigning in the State.

Paswan, who had visited Shillong in June this year, had conveyed the party’s plan to field candidates.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, the state general secretary of the party said that the State Unit will hold a meeting of the office bearers and members of the party on November 20 in Shillong to discuss the election strategy.
