SHILLONG: The banned HNLC has warned stern action against the agents of an upcoming cement company in Jaintia Hills for resorting to unfair means to get people’s support.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, the Publicity Secretary of HNLC, Sainkupar Nongtraw, said that the militant outfit came to know that Nilanchal Cement Pvt Ltd was using some agents from among the local people of Jaintia Hills to threaten the public in order to support the setting up of the cement plant in Jaintia Hills.

Nilanchal Cement Company Pvt Ltd at Elaka Rambrai, Jaintia Hills was in the news recently after its officials were found distributing money among people after a public hearing organized by the company at Umlong Kinongrim earlier this month.

The President of KSU Narpuh Circle Molin Bamo had claimed that each person who came to attend the hearing was given a slip worth Rs 4,000 to get their names registered and after the completion of the hearing people who produced the slips were given money.

The HNLC alleged that the public were ‘threatened and beaten up’ by the agents of Nilanchal Cement Pvt Ltd, namely Binod Dhar and Pilot Dhar with the help of some surrendered cadres of HNLC. According to the HNLC leader, it is also a matter of shame to discover as to how JHADC issued NOC to the company. “This is a clear case of selling Hynniewtrep resources for monetary benefits. Their existence in Hynniewtrep is only for exploitation,” he said. The HNLC warned the agents of Nilanchal Cement Ltd and asserted that stern action will be taken against all those who were involved in threatening the public. The HNLC also wanted the Dolloi and the Durbar Shnong to stop issuing any kind of NOCs to the cement company.
