Cooperative week celebration ends

KHLIEHRIAT: The week-long celebration of the 59th All India Cooperative Week, organized by the State Cooperation Department jointly with the State level Cooperative Federation concluded on Tuesday at Khliehriat.

East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Bhagotia, attended the closing ceremony held at Khliehriat West Community Hall.

The celebration at Khliehriat was on the theme ‘Cooperative enterprises build a better world’ with a topic – Empowerment of women and weaker sections through cooperatives.

Speaking as the chief guest, Bhagotia rued the fact that there was no full-fledged Cooperative office in East Jaintia Hills District, and hoped that the department will set up its office in the new district for the betterment of the primary cooperative societies.

The DC also pointed that visible outlets should be put up so that cooperatives societies can visually presents their products for better marketing.

Meanwhile, Managing Director, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank, DF War, informed that the Bank is focussing on women empowerment.

He informed that the Mawkhar Branch in Shillong and Chamari Branch in Tura were fully managed only by women employee and all Managers in Jaintia Hills are women.

The official also informed that thirty per cent of employees are women.
