NONGSTOIN, June 2: Despite numerous awareness programmes and government appeals, the vaccination drive in West Khasi Hills has been able to cover only 43 per cent of the total populace, barring health and frontline workers.
Informing this, the District Vaccination Officer, Dr R Laloo, said that only 20 per cent of people from areas like Rambrai, Nongthliew, Dingkiingding, Laitdom and others villages in Mairang Block have been inoculated against COVID-19.
Informing that the apprehensions over COVID-19 vaccine continue to loom large among locals due to misinformation, he said a total of 41,909 doses have been administered till June 1 in West Khasi Hills.
Hesitancy to get the COVID-19 jab is the major reason behind the low turnout, the officer said, adding that the sessions for conducting vaccination is scheduled daily yet people are frightened due to rumors about vaccine.
