SHILLONG, June 5: Lok Sabha member from Shillong, Vincent H Pala has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appoint a new Vice Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) at the earliest possible.
“In the interest of the thousands of students, I humbly request your personal intervention in appointment of a new VC without any further delay,” Pala said in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister.
He recalled that he had earlier written a letter to the Union Education Minister with the same demand but no action was taken.
“In the meantime, the sorry state of affairs in the University continues,” he added.
“The ranking of the University has been sliding from year to year. The NAAC report of 2017 had mentioned poor quality of administration and leadership as one of the most important reasons for the University’s fall in ranking,” the MP pointed out.
