SHILLONG: The Government is likely to appoint a new DGP by November end as the acting DGP Rajiv Mehta will take over as the new DG, Narcotics Control Bureau in Delhi shortly.

Since November 1, the state government could not take any decision on the appointment of the successor of N. Ramachandran, who retired on October 1, despite the state security commission recommending five names, DG (Prisons) Kulbir Krishan (1976 batch), Director General of Home Guards from Assam, Subhash Goswami and Meghalaya Director General of Civil Defense and Home Guards, Prem Singh (both 1977 batch), B Kezo, DG (Prisons), Nagaland (1978 batch) and DK Pathak, ADG training, CRPF posted in Delhi (1979 batch). Out of the five shortlisted names, Kezo, though chosen by the Government to be the new police chief , preferred to remain in Nagaland as he is poised to become the next Nagaland DGP. Moreover, another nominated police official, Prem Singh has already written to state home department to strike out his name from the list. Singh is likely to opt for a Central deputation. According to sources, the Government is making efforts to convince Goswami and Pathak to assume charge as the new DGP, but they are yet to respond.
