SHILLONG: The Hima Mylliem Youth Welfare Organization (HMYWO), the FKJGP Upper Shillong Circle and Seng Samla Rngi Shyllong (SSRS) on Wednesday asked the State Government to respond to a clarification sought by the Office of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem in relation to a claim made by the State Tourism department over a plot of land at Dak Bangla in Lum Shyllong.

“Since time immemorial the said plot of land at Lum Shyllong has been maintained and looked after by the Dorbar of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem which has also laid down prohibitions and rules against law breakers and trouble-makers,” HMYWO president Midnightborn Kharlukhi said in a statement on Wednesday.

Kharlukhi said that they were shocked to see a signboard of the Tourism department claiming ownership of the said plot of land and immediately sought the intervention of the Hima Mylliem which later sent a letter to the department on August 13 seeking clarification over the matter.

“It is surprising that the department till date has not responded to the letter sent by the Hima and this has raised suspicion among the residents here about some hidden agenda behind the issue,” he said.

FKJGP Upper Shillong circle general secretary Donald Nongsteng said, “We don’t want to interfere into the ownership of land but it is also expected that the department would do things in a transparent manner.”

The three organizations have decided to hold a Dorbar and decide on further course of actions if the Tourism department failed to respond to the clarification sought by the Hima.
