MCA donates raincoats, gloves to municipalities across districts

SHILLONG, June 8: In attempts to “serve beyond boundaries”, the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA), on Tuesday, distributed raincoats and gloves to civic workers of Shillong Municipal Board, Jowai Municipal Board as well as Nongpoh Municipal & Town Committee. In a statement issued here, the MCA also said that similar items will be sent to other municipalities in the state through its district associations. Honorary secretary of the MCA, Gideon L Kharkongor, said that as per discussions with BCCI the association has decided to directly provide help to the needy across the state through its constituents in the respective districts. On the other hand, as part of its initiative, the MCA also helped Nongpoh Civil hospital, Robert Hospital Shillong, Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Panaliar, Jowai, etc with oxygen cylinders. Apart from this, the association has also provided to mattresses and blankets to community isolation centres across East Khasi Hills.

MNC to offer GREENPAY  cards to Indian customers
SHILLONG, June 8: IDEMIA, a global leader in Augmented Identity, has joined hands with leading global social initiative ClimateSeed to support its CO2 emissions offset project in India, and offer GREENPAY cards to its Indian and its global customers. “IDEMIA is proud to share that the first project in which we have chosen to invest, thanks to our ClimateSeed partnership, is the India-based Khasi Hills community Carbon project, employing 5,000-plus people, conserving existing and regenerating degraded forests in Meghalaya,” the IDEMIA, which is an MNC, said. “With GREENPAY, IDEMIA is taking an end-to-end sustainability approach to the entire payment card lifecycle — from chip module to card body, to digital customer onboarding, to card personalisation and fulfilment, to transport, to recycling once expired. GREENPAY aims to minimise the carbon footprint of payment cards by reducing and recycling at every step of this lifecycle. These efforts are dramatically decreasing the footprint and for the residual footprint,” it added.

KSU wants transformer replaced
MAWKYRWAT, June 8: Peeved with the apathy of the MePDCL, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Rangjadong Unit has given the company one-week ultimatum to replace the transformer at Rangjadong village in South West Khasi Hills. The village has reportedly been without electricity for more than two months after the transformer got damaged. Leaders of the group along with KSU Mawkyrwat Circle, on Tuesday, visited the MePDCL office at Mawkyrwat to raise the issue with officers. However, they found the office vacant. Speaking to media persons, the KSU Rangjadong Unit expressed concern while alleging irresponsibility on part of the MePDCL in addressing the problems of the village. Moreover, KSU Mawkyrwat Circle condemned the MePDCL over its negligence.

Plea for financial succour
SHILLONG, June 8: Lok Janshakti Party state president, Jamil Ahmed, has asked Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to bail out farmers, daily-wage earners, shopkeepers who have been subjected to economic woes brought about by the COVID-induced restrictions. Ahmed said this in a tweet while referring to a recent letter written by the party to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The people of the state need a bail-out plan, especially the farmers, daily wage earners, shopkeepers etc,” Ahmed said in his tweet. The party, in its letter to the prime minister, had asked the latter to waive off electricity bills from April 1 till the end of lockdown. The party had also sought other relief measures.
