SHILLONG: A city court on Thursday directed police to register a case based on the FIR lodged by Meghalaya Right to Information Movement (MRTIM) and Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) to investigate details on the CBI findings related to the teachers recruitment scam.
The court of I. Rymbui, first class judicial magistrate, while hearing the application of the CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing filed under Sec 156(3) of CrPC directed police to register a case against those involved in the tampering of marks of the job applicants for the post of Government LP School teachers.
After considering the judgment of the Supreme Court passed in 2009, the local court directed the officer in-charge of Laitumkhrah police station to register the FIR filed by Angela Rangad representing MRTIM and Kharshiing (CSWO), and also to monitor the investigation.
The officer in charge of Laitumkhrah police station and the SP, East Khasi Hills have also been asked to comply with the order of the court. As per the order, the officer in-charge of Laitumkhrah police station and the SP will have to file the compliance report before the court on November 30. Anti-graft activists in Meghalaya had on November 7 sought police action against the state Ministers and legislators named by the CBI in a job scam that rocked the State earlier this month. The CBI had named five cabinet ministers, the Assembly Speaker and six legislators in the Congress-led coalition government besides other politicians for tampering with the score-sheets of the candidates applying for the post of assistant teachers in 2010.
