SHILLONG: The State Government on Monday said that the Survey of India has admitted that it had not mentioned in its map the caveat which states that the Assam-Meghalaya boundary is yet to be demarcated after Meghalaya had sought a clarification regarding the disappearance of Langpih from the map.
The controversy about the Meghalaya map with regard to the disputed Langpih arose after the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) president, Agnes Kharshiing received a reply following the RTI application which said that Langpih does not figure in the Survey of India map of 2009 whereas the map prepared by the Joint Director, Meghalaya Survey in 1979-80 shows that Langpih is in Meghalaya.
A senior government official said that the Survey of India conveyed to Meghalaya government that it could not carry the caveat while circulating the map.
As per the RTI findings, the Survey of India map had placed Langpih as part of Assam.
“When there are areas under dispute, a caveat is also incorporated in the map which mentions that the inter-state border is yet to be determined”, the official added. The official further said the issue of correcting the matter was taken up with the Survey of India and the reply in this regard was awaited.
