SHILLONG: The Breakaway faction of Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC-B) has lambasted the State Government over its denial that the memorandum was submitted by the ANVC and not by any splinter group.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, ANVC-B leader Rimpu Marak said that the Chief Secretary’s statement of not being aware of ANVC-B’s memorandum is a matter of concern.

While suspecting foul play in the statement of the Chief Secretary, the militant leader said that the memorandum was addressed to the then Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram with copies to the Chief Minister, the Home Minister and the Chief Secretary of the State through the Special Branch and by mail.

Earlier, Chief Secretary WMS Pariat had stated that the parent outfit had submitted a memorandum to both the State Government and the Central Government and the matter was being examined.

“It is all clear now that the State was only making promise through words and they were making us subjects of their corrupt policies,” the militant outfit leader said in a statement issued to media houses here on Tuesday.

While alleging that the State Government is treating the Garos as second-class citizens and depriving them of ‘good governance’, the ANVC-B threatened to take matters into its own hand by using its authority for the welfare of the Garo people.

“Bureaucratic and political foul play is responsible for the deterioration of the situation in Garo Hills,” the statement said while adding that if the State Government does not rectify this problem than the outfit will implement the autonomous power of the Garos with full authority, come what may.
