NONGSTOIN: With the date nearing for the MPCC announcement of the list of candidates who have been awarded party tickets for the 2013 Assembly polls, there is an air of expectation among the aspirants and supporters over who have been ‘blessed’ with the coveted Congress ticket.

Supporters of tickets aspirants in Mawshynrut are waiting with bated breath for the announcement of the Congress candidate with two strong contenders for the party ticket – Methodious Dkhar and Pelcy Snaitang – who are engaged in a ‘cold war’ of sorts.

Incumbent MLA Francis Pondit Sangma had earlier lent his support to Pelcy as he himself is trying his luck from another constituency in Garo Hills. The Garo community, which has a sizeable population in the constituency, had earlier voiced their general support to Pelcy. However, as the support base of Methodious is growing by the day the Garo community is shifting base and moving to the Methodious camp.

Garo people from the area, while speaking to this scribe, said that they have chosen Methodious over other contenders as they feel that he being a local to the area would address their problems after winning the election.

“Other candidates have no house in the constituency and once they win, they would hardly visit the constituency, let alone solve the problems of the people,” the Garo villagers said.

Garo youths in Mawshynrut AC went a step further by saying that they would make sure that Methodious gets greater votes from the Garos than from the Khasis.

The Garo youth from the constituency also appealed to the MPCC to allot the party ticket to Methodious.
