SHILLONG: The ANVC, currently under ceasefire, has invited GNLA leader Sohan D Shira and ANVC (B) chief Rimpu. N Marak to join its fold for peace talks to ensure lasting peace in Garo Hills.

While appreciating the statement of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma that the state government is preparing a draft agreement with the ANVC, its publicity secretary Arist Sangma on Thursday said all the militant outfits of the state should join the peace process.

“They are welcome to join us so that we can collectively make efforts to end violence”, Sangma said

It was the former ANVC militants, who had formed both GNLA and ANVC(B).

“As mother organization, we want to call all the groups, GNLA and ANVC(B) to come together for the betterment of Garo Hills”, he added.

The ANVC, formed in 1995 had entered into a tripartite agreement with both the Centre and the State in 2004. Though their initial demand was for the formation of a separate state, now they are demanding creation of a Garoland Autonomous Council in line with Bodoland Territorial Council.
