SHILLONG: Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh backed Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma to lead the Government after the 2013 polls.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Sangma hoped that under the leadership of Dr Sangma, the party would be able to secure absolute majority in the upcoming Assembly elections.

According to Lyngdoh , several developmental programmes have been launched under the leadership of Dr Sangma.

The Congress has not projected any chief ministerial candidate in the run up to the Assembly elections slated for sometime in February.

Lyngdoh, however, admitted that as per convention, it is the CLP which decides the leader though his preference is for Dr Sangma.

Deborah under flak

The Home Minister also criticized the Congress working president, Deborah Marak for not informing either police or the district administration before going to the prize distribution ceremony in East Garo Hills on Saturday last.

Marak was attacked by a group of ANVC (B) militants during the function. Denying the allegation by Marak that there was an intelligence failure leading to the incident, Lyngdoh said that Marak should have informed the district administration and the police before going to such a sensitive area.
