NONGSTOIN: The Synjuk ki Songshynshar Shnong, Ri Lynggnam-Umdang area, have called the coal traders, truck drivers’ associations of Khasi and Jaintia Hills and the Secretaries of different villages falling under their jurisdiction for a meeting on December 1 at Nongdaju Playground, West Khasi Hills District at 10am. The meeting has been called to discuss the pertinent issues relating to overloading of trucks and the need to increase the prescribed weight of 9 tons by the Supreme Court to 10 tons.

The Synjuk however, mentioned that coal-laden trucks plying the Shallang-Nongshram and Shallang-Riangdo route, were earlier warned not to overload their trucks beyond the prescribed weight. They said that their warnings were not being heeded to and hence the need arose to discuss the issue.
