SHILLONG, July 2: Wandamaphi Syiemlieh, a girl from Shillong, became one of the eight individuals from across the nation to interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of six years of Digital India.
Wandamaphi Syiemlieh works as a ‘medical scribe’ with a Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) company called S10 Healthcare Solutions which is based in Dhankheti here. She initially worked with the same firm at Chennai. However, after receiving incentives from the North East BPO Scheme under Digital India Programme, the company later established a branch at Shillong.
The prime minister, during the interaction with Wandamaphi, said that in the past few years, many initiatives have been undertaken for the North East and its people to make the region an important pillar for the development of the entire nation. He also expressed happiness that many residents from the North East like Wandamaphi have been utilising such initiatives.
The North East BPO Scheme has the potential to boost the KPO presence in Meghalaya and other Northeastern states. It can also attract more KPO companies to open branches here which will immensely benefit the youths.
The Information Technology & Communications department is also setting up the Shillong Tech Park, which can accommodate KPO companies in Shillong. It has a capacity of about 1500 seats.
