NONGSTOIN: The 48-hour road blockade called by the KSU Nongstoin, in collaboration with the KSU Nongpyndeng Unit at Nongpyndeng Village began on Monday at 5:30am. The blockade has been called to protest against the bad road condition that has not been repaired for a while now.

Atleast 20 trucks carrying coal to the depot at Thakhana coal depot Nongpyndeng have been halted and are now lying stranded there. Most of the schools that are still conducting their annual final exams were affected, as most students arrived late for the exams. The taxis that ferried them to school had to drop them off at the entrance of Nongpyndeng Village from where they had to go on foot for about 3 kms.

Traders from Maweit who were on their way to Nongstoin to sell their wares, were also left stranded at Nongpyndeng. They had to then pick their wares and walk 6 kms to the market. Some incidents of stone pelting occurred where three trucks and some taxis sustained partial damages. However no one was reported to be injured.

Student Union members of the KSU felled trees and barricaded the road but the police later arrived at the scene and cleared the road.

Meawhile, organisers of the blockade threatened to extend the stir if the PWD (Roads) fail to undertake the repair work of the road immediately.
