TURA, July 4: The Non-Gazetted Employees’ Association (NGEA) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), on Sunday, sought a clarification from the Chief Executive Member (CEM), Benedic R Marak, on why the vehicle formerly used by then Council Secretary Rikse R Marak is being kept at the Tura Police Station.
“As per our demand for her removal, Marak was released from the post of GHADC Secretary in May. However, after she was released, the vehicle used by her bearing registration number ML 08G 3051 is lying at the Tura Police Station till date,” NGEA joint secretary Flaming B Marak said.
According to Marak, leaders of the association have also sought a clarification from the police whether the vehicle-a Scorpio is connected to any case, to which, the reply was that there was no case.
Marak added that members of the association also took up the matter with the joint secretary of the autonomous district council , who is also in-charge of Transport who also denied any knowledge on the matter.
“We request the new Executive Committee of GHADC to clarify under whose custody and care the said Scorpio is being kept in the Tura Police Station, and whether it still belongs to the GHADC. The GHADC is an institution which protects and preserves the custom and identity of the tribals. Therefore each and every property of GHADC is the property of tribals/public and as such each and every property of GHADC should be taken care of by the authority of GHADC,” Marak stated.
