SHILLONG: The demand for tabling and passing a new and stronger Lokayukta Act in the upcoming Winter Session of the State Assembly starting from December 11 gained momentum following the support of many people at Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi.

A meeting held in Nongpoh where awareness on the demand was carried out heard the voice of many who also pledged support to the demand and action for realizing the same.

Over the week, the Meghalaya Right To Information Movement (MRTIM), which is spearheading the demand for a Lokayukta Act, has also met several legislators including Paul Lyngdoh, Hopingstone Lyngdoh, Bindo M Lanong, Manas Chaudhuri, Charles Pyngrope and AL Hek to apprise them of the demand and discuss the draft bill, copies of which have been handed over to them.

Copies of the draft have also been circulated to over fifteen other legislators with a request for them to support the bill.
