SHILLONG: Unhappy over the state government’s failure to address the twin issue of child labour and sexual harassment on minors, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has shot off a letter to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma asking the State Government to constitute the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR).
Informing this here on Thursday, the NCPCR chairperson Shanta Sinha said the child rights panel must be constituted in the state as per the RTE Act, Child Rights Act and Protection of Children from sexual offence Act.
It may be mentioned that sexual harassment of women particularly minors seemed to have become the order of the day in the State as many complaints of rape cases have been lodged in the State in the past few months.
The NCPCR earlier responded to all those cases of rape which were brought to its notice.
“We have written similar letters to those states which have not yet constituted the SCPCR,” she said
The NCPCR is also of the view that that the State Government must come out with a policy on children which would take care of the various issues confronting the welfare of children.
