EVM checking to begin soon

AGARTALA: The first round of EVM checking will get underway shortly with a team of Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) arriving here within next two days, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal.

The ECIL team will start checking of EVMs stored in eight warehouses across the state amidst tight security. As many as 4500 EVMs are stored in the warehouses. The elections to the 60-member Tripura Assembly is scheduled to held on early next year.

After ending of haring on claims and objections, state election machineries have been giving final tough to the revision process, he said adding that four observers would visit the state to oversee the entire process. They will also meet the representatives of all political parties to know their views over the revision process. Out of four observers, one observer- Samir Kumar will arrive here on December 9 next.

On being asked about complain on white paper, Jindal on Friday said they have already come to know to the errors which were made on plain papers in stead of prescribed forms.

Sources said, if the observers are satisfied with the revision process of electoral rolls, then only they will ask for printing of photo electoral rolls. To ensure error free-electoral rolls, printed photo electoral rolls will be kept ready for cross check. The Secretary of Election Commission KM Bhar has already held meeting with DMs and Addl DM and passed some guideline while preparing the photo electoral rolls.

It may be noted that the state election department published the draft photo electoral rolls in all 60 Assembly seats on September 20 last. According to the draft rolls, the number of electorates stands at 22,77,415.

In course of two legs of revision process, over 1.50 lakh applications were submitted in all the 60 Assembly seats.

In the first phase, a total 1.20 lakh applications for inclusion, exclusion and shifting were submitted.
