TURA, July 14: The unavailability of mobile network or poor service provided by the various service providers in many areas of Garo Hills including villages like Garobadha, Rangsakona and Mukdangra in South West Garo Hills, is badly affecting the student community, especially at a time when their education is being imparted online in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The poor service or lack of it has created immense hardships to the students of the area as their only means of education, interaction with teachers and appearance in tests and examinations is through the online platform.
Coming to the aid of the students, the Garo Students’ Union, Garobadha Regional unit, on Wednesday sought the immediate intervention of South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ramakrishna Chitturi, in the matter.
“The situation due to unavailability of network is so bad and it has resulted in loss to the student community academically. There are a number of network service providers in the area but the service being provided by them is anything but satisfactory,” General secretary of the union Bibian Momin said in his complaint to the DC.
The union pointed out that the poor network problem could be due to negligence, lack of maintenance, network congestion or other issues best known to the service providers. Stating that the future of the students is at stake due to the ongoing problem, it urged the DC to look into the matter and take it up with the authorities concerned.
