SHILLONG, July 16: It has been more than seven months since the Directorate of Local Fund Auditing (DLFA) started the audit of accounts of GHADC and JHADC but till date it has not been able to submit the report to the District Council Affairs department.
Facing heat from all corners on the issue of corruption in the two district councils and the growing demand for a CBI probe, the state government in September last year had asked the DLFA to conduct audit of the accounts in the two district councils.
However, officials from the District Council Affairs department on Friday informed that the department has not received any report from the DLFA and the auditing work is still going on.
It is said that protest by the GHADC employees and lockdown has slowed down the auditing work of the DLFA.
The DFLA is conducting a thorough audit of the expenses made by the GHADC and JHADC during the last five years — 2015 till 2020.
The DLFA was asked to conduct the audit after Governor Satya Pal Malik had sought the government’s response to complaints of embezzlement he had received against the GHADC and the JHADC under the Special Grant Assistance.
The DFLA has not been given any time frame to complete its task.
