State records highest deaths in 33 days

SHILLONG, July 22: Meghalaya recorded 14 deaths from COVID-19 on Thursday, the highest in the last 33 days while the number of fresh cases hovered above the 500-mark for the third straight day.
The death toll in the state climbed to 988 while the active tally stands at 4,413.
11 fatalities were reported in East Khasi Hills and one each in South West Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills.
184 fresh cases were reported in East Khasi Hills, 105 in West Garo Hills, 70 in Ri Bhoi, 35 in West Jaintia Hills, 28 in South West Khasi Hills, 27 in West Khasi Hills, 25 in North Garo Hills, 15 in South West Garo Hills, 12 in East Garo Hills and six each in East Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills.
307 recoveries on Thursday took the number of patients cured/discharged to 53,638.
Meghalaya has administered 9,66,679 doses of vaccine so far. 8,17,228 people have received the first dose of whom 1,49,451 have taken the second dose.
